Today during Bonnie Ross’ D.I.C.E. speech on the stewardship of the Halo franchise, the 343 Industries general manager brought up the topic about Halo 5 not having split screen.

When we didn’t put split screen in Halo 5, it was incredibly painful for the community and for us,” she said. “I think it erodes trust with the community, as the community is a part of our world building.”

The original decision by Phil Spencer to not put split screen in Halo 5 was done because a “vast majority” of players were playing cooperatively over Xbox Live, not locally. The fanbase didn’t like it at all and ever since the game launched that was the one criticism about the title.
It’ll be great to see Halo 6 with split-screen.
