When it comes to the PlayStation 3, the platform while in the hearts of many is fairly intangible as the service is now tied to the new versions of PlayStation Plus. For fans that own the original console still, there is no problem. However, a natvie implementation similar to Xbox backwards compatibility is missing which is unfortunate to see.

But, legacy titles are coming to newer hardware with updated ports. For one, The Last of Us Part I which ships later this year for PlayStation 5 re-introduces the 2013 release whilst implementing the updated visuals used in its 2020 sequel. Additionally, the game is also coming to PC which will be interesting to say at the very least for new players.

This week, Sony Interactive Entertainment showcased the remembered title The Tomorrow Children: Phoenix Edition which is a new version of the classic title for newer hardware. You can watch the gameplay trailer in the video below:

“The Tomorrow Children: Phoenix Edition takes place within an alternate future following a failed experiment to unite the minds of all humanity. The return of civilisation now lies in the hands of Projection Clones; life forms capable of venturing deep into the Void in search of preserved human survivors. That’s where you come in…” Q-Games Game Director and CEO, Dylan Cuthbert shares.

“We decided early on in development that we wanted to add more islands. That was an easy choice to make. Deciding which ideas to implement was… more difficult. With a wealth of promising concepts in hand, we started exploring how we could diversify the Void in the multitude of ways we had in mind. Monoliths gave us the perfect gateway to expand existing islands and morph them into new landscapes, creating a broad experience that now spans more than 40 islands in total.”

Unlike the original release, the new Phoenix Edition includes a new Grappling Hook which allows for more unique traversal across the Void. Atop of that, offline play is even easier unlike the PlayStation 3 version with a comrade AI which reflects your playstyle to keep the experience as organic as possible.
