In the past, we witnessed Super Bomberman take a unique approach with Konami’s decision making when revealing Super Bomberman R. At the time, the game was an original game for Google’s Stadia platform then. However, the firm later went on to reveal that the title would be coming to more platforms under the moniker ‘Super Bomberman R Online’.

Additionally, the game would instead be a free-to-play experience as well. This drastically differs from the original pricing for the game on the cloud platform. But the game officially shipped just over a year ago in May 2021 and has remained online since then. But, Konami is cutting support for the game shorter than expected.

According to a statement from the publisher, Super Bomberman R Online is to shutter its online servers come this December. “This service has continued to operate with the support of many users since its launch in May 2021, but due to various circumstances, we have decided to terminate the service on all platforms on December 1, 2022,” the post reads.

The start of this summer, June 1st, also marked the ending for the game’s Bomber Coins. The ability to purchase or use the digital currency has already been severed prior to the service being closed for good. But, there is more good to come from the announcement as per a separate statement in the post.

In that, Konami shares more projects are on the horizon for the Bomberman IP. “The ‘Bomberman’ series is moving forward with new projects. We hope to be able to inform you of this project soon.” What do you hope will come from Konami for Bomberman next?

Super Bomberman R Online is out now for Stadia, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
