Although Silent Hill finally got its spotlight back in fall 2022 with the entire showcase held then, Castlevania is still in the shadows. While fitting for the type of series it is, many fans of the franchise do not appreciate the longing for some form of announcement on the video game series. However, there’s not to say nothing came out. In fact, Castlevania: Grimoire Of Souls shipped on Apple Arcade back in 2021.
Additionally, there are other crossover projects that includes Castlevania as well. We’ve seen Brawlhalla include characters Simon Belmont and Alucard previously. Not to mention Simon & Ritcher as featured characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Even Dead Cells is following this trend with standalone game ‘Return to Castlevania‘ later this May.
According to a new discovery via Gematsu, Konami has filed a new trademark which appears to be for the Castlevania IP. Given the moniker ‘Project Zircon’, it can easily be traced to the action platformer. More precisely, the filing is abridged directly to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night as Zircon is the least valued gem in the game.
Noted, this is not the first instance Konami has filed for Castlevania before. Back in 2021, the Japanese publisher filed a separate trademark for “Akumajou Dracula” which translates to Castlevania in Japanese. But, despite the filing being established nearly two years ago, little has surfaced on what the trademark is intended for just yet.
Elsewhere, other claims told that Konami is outright outsourcing the property to third-party developers. Already, we saw this with Silent Hill 2 remake. And currently it would make more sense if the publisher is trying to expand on this possibility. Even more, it would also answer for Project Zircon as well if this evolves into something more.
