Gearbox Software announced today that Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 has been delayed indefinitely. The game was planned to release on the Nintendo platform on October 3, almost a month after its release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
All digital pre-orders to date will be cancelled, Gearbox confirmed. Customers will be able to start that process now, or it will happen automatically on Friday, September 26.
Here is the statement shared on X (Twitter):
“We do not take this decision lightly, but are committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development and polish time to do that. Our hope is to also better align this release with the addition of cross saves, which we are working on and recognize is very important. We will update you all on the new release timing once we’ve fully adjusted our plans.”
Borderlands 4 was originally scheduled for release in late September 2025 on Xbox Series, PS5, and PC. However, Randy Pitchford stated that development was progressing well, so they decided to move the release date up to September 12.
A release date for the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 is unknown as Gearbox will work to make the adjustments it needs.
