meta studios closures

Today, Meta announced it has closed a few of its game studios. The studios impacted by closures are Armature Studio, Sanzaru Games, and Twisted Pixel.

It was originally shared by Bloomberg that Meta will be cutting more than 1,000 jobs from its Reality Labs business. Twisted Pixel and Armature Studio were acquired in October 2022, and Sanzaru Games was acquired in 2020.

Twisted Pixel is coming fresh off the release of Marvel’s Deadpool VR, but the studio is well known for its Xbox 360 releases of Splosion Man and Ms. Splosion Man.

Armature Studio developed the VR port of Resident Evil 4, but it has not released any games since Meta made the acquisition.

Sanzaru Games developed Asgard’s Wrath and Asgard’s Wrath 2 under Oculus Studios, but is probably most known for The Sly Collection and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.

Meta stated it is shifting its focus from the Metaverse toward Wearables. “This is part of that effort, and we plan to reinvest the savings to support the growth of wearables this year.”
