Ubisoft announced today during its latest financial earnings call that it has officially canceled development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. The game had been in development for a few years, with its initial announcement coming in 2024.
“We’ve made the difficult decision to stop development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. We know this is deeply disappointing. The game carries enormous meaning for fans and for the teams who worked on it,” the statement reads.
“While the project had real potential, we weren’t able to reach the level of quality you deserve, and continuing would have required more time and investment than we could responsibly commit. And we didn’t want to release something that fell short of what The Sands of Time represents.”
Speculation started to arise when Ubisoft announced that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time wouldn’t be at The Game Awards in December 2025. The game was rumored to be released in Early 2026.
Prince of Persia wasn’t the only project impacted by Ubisoft’s decision. The company has delayed seven other games, with one of them likely being the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake that was rumored to release around March 2026.
