You won’t be playing on a PlayStation 5 for another couple of years, according to Ubisoft. In an investors call earlier this week, CEO Yves Guillemot declared that he believes new consoles are “a minimum of two years” away. We’d always assumed Sony would release a new system in 2019, too – but we’re actually starting to think it may be 2020 to be honest. It seems we’re on the same page as the French publisher.
“As Sony launched the PS4 Pro last year and Microsoft Xbox One X this year, we think we still have a minimum of two years in front of us before something new is coming,” he explained. “But that’s our perception, we don’t have any confidential information on that front.” Guillemot added that he believes the mid-gen refreshes are good for the industry, and the additional horsepower will allow it to create better games.
It is honestly a bit insane we are already talking about PS5 when the PS4 Pro has just launched in 2016 and Microsoft just released the Xbox One X which is their version of the most powerful console.
Do you really think we’ll be playing a PS5 as early as 2019?
