This year marks the 25th year anniversary of Shiny Entertainment’s Earthworm Jim, a nostalgic and landmark platformer that still stands to be one of the most recognizable games from its era in the mid-90s. In celebration of the quarter century commemoration, the original development team of the 1994 title will be reuniting to create a new title to drop in the coming year.
In a press release from Intellivision Entertainment, the company shares that the unnamed Earthworm Jim title will be exclusive to their approaching Intellivision Amico which is currently slated to release in 2020.
“We have been talking about this moment for many years, it’s a dream come true to finally get the entire team back together,” Intellivision CEO Tommy Tallarico states. “Intellivision Amico is designed to bring friends and famalies together and we are excited for fans and those just being introduced to the series to get a first look as we kick-off the design of the game.”
Tallarico alongside other figures like David Perry, Doug TenNapel, Nick Bruty, Tom Tanaka, Mike Dietz, and Joey Kuras who originated from the initial Earthwork Jim team will be involved for the new title.
Interplay Entertainment President Hervé Caen also takes the milk stand with the forthcoming title as he shares to expand the franchise as the current owner of the Earthworm Jim license. “Intellivision and Earthworm Jim are both part of the memory DNA for millions of today’s gamers, so this was a great fit.” Expanding on the matter by stating to expect more of the franchise on other media fronts.
