Valve today announced a new part of the Steam family with the introduction of Steam Labs. What exactly this new tangent of the platform is allows users to test out upcoming features for the storefront, not games. However, the tested elements that you will be able to experiment with are intended to help you find more games through Steam if passing the certifications to be fully implemented into the marketplace.

Valve has revealed three different features that are in the works to possibly come to Steam officially if they check certain boxes:

  • Micro Trailers – when exploring game pages categorized by genre, a simple hover of the cursor over the image will play a six second brief of the game to give more context to what the respected title is about.
  • Interactive Recommender – a compiled list of titles that will be recommended to you based on the games you play the most; featuring sliders that varies the recommendation deprived from age of game and playtime.
  • Automatic Show – as the name reads presents a collection of the hottest games from that day and generates a 30-minute highlight reel of said titles.

For what other features will be coming via Steam Labs will eventually be shown, but as for what Valve currently has planned, the three main concepts are all that’s available as of now. Depending on the outcome based on reception, some of the presented feature will not make it into the finished product of a Steam update.

Previously, Valve had to clarify on the confusion circulating around this Summer’s Grand Prix sale as users would delist indie titles from their wishlist for more desired AAA titles: verifying that the free game through the event would only be given if the preferred title was at the top of the wishlist.
