Yesterday, on April 29, Gearbox Software announced that Borderlands 4 will now be releasing on September 12, 2025, which is 11 days ahead of its original planned date on September 23. Right away the speculation began online that this may have to do something with a potential GTA 6 launch or interfering with Marathon.
Gearbox boss, Randy Pitchford, shared on X (Twitter) hours later, saying that Borderlands 4’s early release is due to the result of confidence in the game and development trajectory backed by bug find/fix rates and actual tasks. “Our decision is literally 0% about any other product’s actual or theoretical launch date”.
Today, there will be a Borderlands 4 State of Play held on PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels at 5 PM ET / 2 PM PT. The digital presentation will be around 20 minutes long, with a deep dive into the gameplay and showcasing some of its new characters and other features.
Borderlands 4 will be releasing on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC this September.
In other news related to 2K Games, Mafia: The Old Country is going to have a panel at PAX East next week on May 8th. The release date was leaked by mistake from an early blog post by Hangar 13. It’s expected to release on August 8, 2025.
