As we are more than familiar with by now following the immediate postponement that took place last week, Sony’s PlayStation 5 showcase will be kicking off later this afternoon to unveil what the next-generation system has in-store for the next iteration of PlayStation. And unlike what we saw from Microsoft as the firm frames its true showcase to take place in July, today’s show will introduce the first-party lineup only available on PlayStation 5.
However, it is unsure where this lands for the unique properties set to arrive for the upcoming system since practically no tangible details have emerged in the coming weeks leading up to the event’s commencement. With that, however, individuals within the industry has went to unravel just the corner of the candy bar as the full thing will be shown today.
This comes from Dead Space 3 Writer Antony Johnston who tweeted recently that a new game, of sorts, is on the way. As we know, Dead Space 3 essentially ceases to be since the closure of Visceral Games back in 2018 with publisher Electronic Arts officially dismantling the California studio.
“As some of you know, I’ve been working on a big videogame for almost 2 years now. In totally unrelated news, you should all watch the PS5 launch event this Thursday,” Johnston penned on Twitter abruptly this past Tuesday. “Hint: you play a character having a really bad time,” Johnston adds in a following tweet yesterday. But since the second post, both tweets have been removed as of reporting.
Looking at what might come is still unclear not knowing what is underway for the PlayStation 5. It is no secret the relationship Sony had with Electronic Arts regarding Dead Space since protagonist Isaac Clark was a fighter in PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale. But again with the initial developer now under, it is uncertain if a new title is coming uniquely to PlayStation 5. Even more, the series originally shipped as a multiplatform series, so that is another contradiction.
Perhaps Johnston might be pointing towards the coming title set to be revealed by 2K Silicon Valley? Specifically mentioning the unnamed project is due to the knowing that former Dead Space developer Michael Condrey is helming the newly formed team. It was reported back in February that the studio’s first title would be revealed relatively soon. You can read the full report by heading here.
What do you think this new title might be with Johnston involved?
The PlayStation 5 event will take place later today, June 11 at 1 PM PST / 4 PM EST.
