In the most obvious manner, Square Enix is nowhere near the end of its campaign for modern legacy releases. This is especially apparent with Final Fantasy VII taking the most spotlight. Previously, it was confirmed the first two of the trilogy are to release on Xbox now. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is to ship on the platform alongside Nintendo Switch 2 this January. And, the entire trilogy will be realized as a multiplatform release, Square Enix promises.

As for other releases in 2025 alone, there is nearly a handful of titles to list. Recently, fans witnessed Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster arrive with a new Nintendo Switch 2 release. Additionally, there are titles like SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered & Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven as well that offer classic experiences on modern systems.

Now, another beloved title is on the way to ship this coming winter. At the recent PlayStation State of Play, Square Enix confirmed a February 2026 launch for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. You can watch the release date trailer in the video below:

“At the heart of Dragon Quest VII’s tale are the stone tablets. These mysterious artefacts, when whole, open up new locations to visit – each with their own unique stories to discover,” Square Enix explains. This structure makes the game very accessible and digestible – and also deeply compelling.

“Each new location has a new story to tell, and you’ll always be excited to see what adventures await behind the next tablet!” It continues: “As you play, you will collect the fragments of broken stone tablets, then fit them all back together like a puzzle to open up new locations to visit. These new areas all have their own problems, and solving them will cause those locations to appear in your protagonist’s world, adding to the places you can explore!”

The new storyline synopsis reads: “As the protagonist continues his adventures in the Rucker region of the past, he’ll encounter his best friend Kiefer – looking decidedly older! To help Kiefer with his troubles, you’ll sneak into Rucker Castle at night! Just don’t let the guards spot you. Kiefer has honed his skills considerably and will support you in battle with items and powerful abilities.”
