Electronic Arts is officially canceling its Black Panther game that was in development by Cliffhanger Games. IGN first reported this news and has shared that EA closed Cliffhanger Games on top of the cancellation.
The Black Panther game was announced in July 2023, and two years later, we have received no update on the original single-player action-adventure game.
In an email sent to staff from EA president Laura Miele, she states that the layoffs are being done to “sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities.”
Electronic Arts also announced it will be laying off individuals on its central and mobile teams. The exact number of employees laid off has not been specified. The outlet reports that it should be fewer than the 300 layoffs Respawn Entertainment had.
The layoffs Respawn Entertainment received were after EA decided to cancel another Titanfall spinoff that was believed to be an Extraction-focused multiplayer game.
EA’s Laura Miele continued to say the company is focusing on a small handful of franchises going forward. That includes The Sims, Battlefield, Skate, and Apex Legends. Marvel fans should still be excited for EA Motive’s new project for the Iron Man game that has been in development in Unreal Engine 5.
