For more than a year now, it has been no secret in terms of how Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to increase its profits with the latest PlayStation 5. Instantly, it was discovered that next-generation experiences would be priced at a higher price tag of $10 more. Despite those arguing other platforms not doing the same, publishers such as Take-Two Interactive & Ubisoft both enabling this new decision with its own titles too.
Internally at the PlayStation company, Sony Interactive Entertainment President & CEO Jim Ryan shared to be in favor or the decision. “If you measure the hours of entertainment provided by a video game, such as Demon’s Souls compared to any other form of entertainment, I think that’s a very straightforward comparison to draw.” Elsewhere, the firm also pressed following Horizon Forbidden West will be the true line crossing to the new price point.
Even with its PlayStation Plus titles, some games with PlayStation 5 versions are not included in the free game program for owners of the service – i.e. Final Fantasy VII Remake. But recently Square Enix shared that those who own the freebee game from March 2021 can enjoy the PlayStation 5 variant on the newer hardware.
It appears that Square Enix was able to negotiate an arrangement with Sony Interactive Entertainment to make this happen. While the PlayStation firm was vocally in favor of users purchasing a separate version, this contradicts that motive on its own platform.
Recently, Final Fantasy VII Remake breaks new ground this month at The Game Awards. Despite launching last April, Square Enix reveals that the game is arriving to PC finally. Noted, it is launching for Epic Games Store uniquely for the time being. That includes the add-on Intergrade bringing the price to $69 at checkout. You can read the full report by heading here.
