The Dauntless live-service has been a tall standing title for years. With the game’s introduction before the 2020 pandemic, it live onward in the years following. Back in 2021, Dauntless continued its impression on players with a Nintendo Switch version. The game further welcomed the platform with exclusive in-game items to those that play Dauntless there.
Additionally, Dauntless continued to leave its indentation on gaming when Microsoft began readjusting its policy towards free-to-play games. Among the dozens that would not require Xbox Live Gold then, Dauntless was on that list. Later in 2021, Phoenix Labs welcomed next-generation Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5 version of Dauntless as well.
But in 2025, Dauntless is officially on the way out. After its official runtime began in 2019, Phoenix Labs reveals that the servers for Dauntless is to shutter later this May. “Important update: Dauntless is shutting down on May 29, 2025. Dauntless will receive no additional content or updates,” the post on X reads. “Thanks to all for being a part of the Dauntless journey.”
Already, in-game purchases for Dauntless were shuttered shortly after the statement was released. “As of this announcement, we are working with partners to disable in-game purchases. Players should expect they’ll no longer be able to purchase Platinum on or before March 1, 2025,” Phoenix Labs added in a blog post.
This is not the only surprising reveal of a free-to-play being abruptly closed recently. In anticipation for Smite 2, Hi-Rez Studios revealed that both Divine Knockout & Realm Royale are to both close then. You can read the full report by heading here.
