After learning last week that Project xCloud will officially drop in mid September, many fans were ecstatic that the wait is just a little over a month until the cloud-based service will be available. Already disclosing that the platform will unique to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate owners, it was a matter of time that more details on the approaching initiative would be unveiled. But instead of another blog post, the firm is planning to ship an open playtest this week.

Yesterday, the Xbox Game Pass app for the Google Play Store abruptly appeared on the Android-powered storefront followed by a couple media outlets verifying that the service will be offering an open beta to sample what the full product will be in the coming weeks. “This is a Public Beta of the Xbox Game Pass app that provides and early peek at new capabilities,” the application’s description reads.

In addition, Microsoft also issued a statement on the shortly arriving playtest to elaborate on its efforts this coming September.

As we approach the launch of cloud gaming with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on September 15, we’re entering a limited beta period to ensure a smooth transition of the cloud gaming experience to the Xbox Game Pass app on Android.

Existing Xbox Game Pass (Beta) app users will get the opportunity to test a subset of the available titles as we ready the experience for broader availability next month. This limited beta is critical to providing the best possible experience for members at launch and should not be considered indicative of the final experience or library.

And while an abundance of Android owners will be indulging in Project xCloud a month before the official release of the platform, Apple users are undetermined for their debut for the service. Last week, it was discovered that Microsoft terminated the TestFlight for Project xCloud due to certain limitations hindering the Preview enacted by specific App Store policy.

In a later statement provided by Microsoft, the firm stated that “Apple stands alone as the only general purpose platform to deny consumers from cloud gaming and game subscription services like Xbox Game Pass.” You can read the full report by heading here.

Project xCloud is scheduled to arrive on September 15, 2020.
