The release of the Nintendo Switch 2 is coming soon and the amount of information that trails behind the recent Direct showcase is staggering. This also leaves room for misinterpretations or other incorrect details that have surfaced online as well. One is the reality of its pricing. New developments reveal that not all games will be $80 as president Doug Bowser confirmed that Nintendo will be practicing variable pricing for its titles in the new lifecycle.
Additionally, there are new details on how Nintendo will handle its physical releases. In that, there will be new 64 GB cartridges alongside ‘Game-Key Cards’. Some games are to feature the entire client on the physical card – i.e. Cyberpunk 2077 – and others will require a software install after inserting the game. But, many went to believe that this also applies to the new ‘Switch 2 Edition’ titles for its legacy games.
On X, an image went viral which shared an exchange with Nintendo customer service which appeared to answer that the upgrade for Nintendo Switch 2 will be an install and not on the new cartridge. “Yes, we can confirm that the upgrades will be download codes. Thank you for your understanding,” @DoesItPlay1 shared from the image in the post.
But according to a new development with another X user, @NintyPrime, the games will be complete on the Nintendo Switch 2 cartridge natively. “If you were to purchase a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of a game on physical format, you will receive one cartridge with the upgrade already in it. However, if you already had the game for Nintendo Switch 1 and only were yo purchase the expansion update, you would then receive a digital Download Code regardless if you have digital or physical format.”
So while titles can be acquired digitally if upgraded via the Nintendo eShop, the avenue to go physical will included with the entire game alongside the new Nintendo Switch 2 version. Recently, images online appeared for the physical case for the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo also confirmed that the physical cartridges will share the same disgusting taste as the original.
