For Xbox, it is no secret that the American console platform is still trying to crack the thick barrier that is the Asian market. While competitors Nintendo & Sony both originate in the East from Japan, the firm remains adamant on holding its own placement in the respected market. In one instance, it is breaking margins compared to legacy consoles. But elsewhere, it falls short with new pricing adding a larger fee to its consoles there.
What’s more, developers from those regions are also skipping Xbox as well. In the case of Black Myth: Wukong, it is delaying its Xbox version due to complications for development on that platform. Likewise, we witnessed a slew of legacy remasters from Capcom also absent. But a recent report indicates that is on Microsoft’s behalf as the systems dropped support for one of the priority engines from the publisher.
Recently, a report broke out from ChinaJoy 2024 sharing the perception from developers in Asia of Xbox. According to an anonymous developer for the Phantom Blade Zero expressed “nobody needs this platform [Xbox]”. But as traction picked up, the team made an official statement on X denouncing the comment towards Xbox.
“We want to clarify that these claimed statements do not represent S-GAME’s values or culture, as we believe in making our game accessible to everyone and have not ruled out any platforms for Phantom Blade Zero,” the gist of the statement from the post reveals on the team’s stance towards Xbox as a platform.
What’s more, Niko Partners analyst David Ahmad chimes in on the matter. The first outlet that picked up wind on comment, Argoed, is found to be using AI to generate article and considered to be a false report. “the way it was reported (not part of an official interview) and sourced, + the first mention of it being from that AI site, makes me believe it’s fake,” he said.
What is your stance from this recent string of events?
