Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends continues to grow immensely following the release of each content season that arrives for the ongoing battle royale. It was reported that Season 5 – Fortune’s Favor – marks the most successful in concurrent players to date for the series; that also breaking a previous record held for Season 3. And with more users flooding the game’s servers, Respawn Entertainment is looking to bridge the platforms currently supported for the title.
It was reported earlier in 2020 that the developer holds the support for cross-platform play to be a main priority for the game as the team continues to crank out more content for the online-only property. With that alone, it does not accurately determine when fans can expect to drop with their friends on opposing systems.
However, that might be very soon. According to a claim made by Jeff Grubb of GamesBeat, he discloses that the battle royale is expecting the full announcement for cross-play during tomorrow’s EA Play Live show.
Apex Legends is still one of EA’s biggest games, and it should get some news at EA Play. Expect the battle royale shooter to get crossplay. This will come in time to ensure that the next-gen systems have plenty of players when they launch this fall.
Atop of the feature to allow users on differing systems to play together, Grubb also mentions that the implementation of cross-play will align with the next-generation versions of Apex Legends as well. It is entirely plausible for this to act out as Respawn Entertainment has disclosed support for the newer consoles according to a recent job listing uncovered online.
As for the possibility of cross-play coming to the battle royale, it was previously speculated that the title would arrive for the PC version of the game when the Steam port of Apex Legends leaked back in May. But, seeing Need for Speed Heat adopting cross-play last week, the chances for more EA-published titles are also on the horizon for extended support assuming the company is ambitious to do so.
All in all, the claim does have surrounding evidence which could corroborate with the announcement taking place tomorrow. But as of recent, Grubb has began to slip up on his claims in regard to companies like Microsoft where he was incorrect about the firm postponing its virtual showcases to August. But he still holds an accurate reputation with Nintendo-centered speculation, so his statement on a possible Switch version holds more stability than the latter.
