The recent release of Sonic Mania and its physical iteration of Sonic Mania Plus reintroduced the core elements of Sonic the Hedgehog whilst expanding on the platformer genre of the Blue Blur with a mixture of nostalgia and fan-influenced level design. Now the team behind Sonic’s revival is now kicking off their own studio, Evening Star.

Said from the studio’s website, Evening Star being based in Las Angeles also houses two more divisions in both London and Melbourne. Names such as Tom Fry, Hunter Bridges, and Brad Flick from Hyperkinetic Studios are now part of the newly founded developer.

For Evening Star, being a “boutique” game studio has a specific meaning. Every member pursues a goal to make their own great games. By encouraging strong technical foundations in every discipline, members are given a voice and latitude to impact games in unique ways. By reinvigorating gaming history’s more cunning techniques, the team boldly explores directions long since left behind.

On what Evening Star is planning to create with the freedoms of being their own studio finally, it will be worth keeping an eye out for when the developer is ready to reveal what’s next.
