One of the largest concerns for Xbox’s future is the apparent diminishing support for physical content. It does not support its case when leaked documents reveal a new flagship console not equipped with a disc drive or any form of media reader. However, the evidence further points to this fate after retailers are starting to abandon Xbox as well. In Wal-Mart locations, the retailer is pulling select games from its shelves already.

Additionally, Best Buy is facing a similar approach as well. But, the brick & mortar retailer is applying this to all forms of media in-store; not exclusively to Xbox. But what paints a bad picture is the internal restructuring at Microsoft. According to Windows Central Gaming’s Jez Corden, he told the division responsible for its physical releases was shuttered amid the recent mass layoff wave at the company.

But with the announcement for Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded going multiplatform, things are reshaping for physical games. In that, both Pentiment & Hi-Fi Rush are planned to face physical support for respected platforms. This comes from announcements by Limited Run Games that will be responsible for production.

Starting tomorrow, February 22nd, pre-orders for Pentiment for Xbox Series X|S & Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch will go live until March 24th. However, Hi-Fi Rush although establishing a physical release is coming did not disclose when fans can pre-purchase or expect when the game will release on that behalf.

In an email asking on the state of Limited Run Games with Xbox Game Studios, an email to Rectify Gaming says: “We have made several physical Xbox games and will continue to do so. If we make an Xbox physical it’s dependent on demand as the physical Xbox tends to sell less than all other platforms. We plan to continue support as long as there’s viable demand.”

Noted, there are new releases on the horizon that are also without physical support. Already, Grounded is one nearing example. Not to mention the previous GhostWire Tokyo. And, the May-scheduled Hellblade II: Senau’s Saga is to arrive with no physical version either. It could be in the hands of third-party companies to handle Xbox releases moving forward if the demand is there.

Last week, Microsoft addressed the elephant in the room – some of its titles will be going multiplatform. In total, about four games are to be arriving to other hardware. However, what the games are were left to the discretion of the developers to disclose. But, reports online already determined the designated multiplatform releases to be Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea Of Thieves, Grounded to be revealed.

As of yet, the recent Nintendo Partner Direct already indulged at least what half of the list is, officially. In the online presentation, it revealed that Pentiment & Grounded are on the way for Nintendo Switch. But, this leaves many questioning if the other games will  make it to Nintendo Switch or the latter PlayStation.

In an abrupt announcement online, Microsoft sheds light on those waiting by stating that Hi-Fi Rush is in fact coming to PlayStation 5. The game will be coming next month. You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below:

“Hi-Fi Rush, the award-winning and beloved rhythm-based action game where the world syncs to the music from Tango Gameworks/Bethesda Softworks will be coming to PlayStation 5 on March 19 at midnight UTC, with pre-purchase available on PlayStation 5 digital storefronts on February 22,” the Xbox Wire blog post says.

Also in the announcement post, it clarifies on the Nintendo Switch releases for Pentiment & Grounded. In that, both games are to also ship for PlayStation 4 & PlayStation 5 at their respected release dates. Additionally, Grounded is said to feature crossplay support between all platforms which is a welcomed addition.

This week, Microsoft officially broke its silence on the biggest controversy for its Xbox platform: multiplatform releases. Partly, there was a major slew of rumors & claims that insisted that Xbox would be going full third-party. However, other reports say it’s only a few games reaching to competing consoles. In the end, Microsoft shared four games are part of the roadmap. But, what those games are were left undisclosed.

For certain what those titles won’t be – Phil Spencer did address that much. During the presentation, Spencer said both Starfield & Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are not part of the plans. Furthermore, he also elaborated that there are no other plans for additional titles. “So if you’re on those other platforms and see those four games coming, please do take it as some signal that everything’s coming – it’s not,” he said.

And while the industry must patiently await Microsoft or the respected teams to tell what these games will be, insiders happen to already have an understanding on the unannounced four games. In one report from The Verge, sources tell that Hi-Fi Rush & Pentiment are to be the first two. That is then followed by Sea of Thieves & Grounded.

Even more, credible Japanese publication Famitsu also reports similar whispers within Microsoft as well; corroborating the same list of titles. And even going off of Spencer’s statement for these games, they match the description. “Two of them kinda community-driven games that we can continue to invest in,” Spencer elaborated during the podcast.

“Two of the other games are smaller games that were never really meant to be built for as ‘platform exclusives’ and all the fanfare that goes all around that.” He presses this endeavor will open more opportunities for games that were built from the same foundation. Even still, these titles will launch first on Xbox Game Pass. Which was said now to be over 34 million strong. You can read the full report by heading here.

While Xbox Series X|S technically did already welcome a slew of unique releases, many of them have only been exclusive for a set amount of time – The Faloneer, The Medium, for example. Elsewhere, Xbox Game Studios so far has only issued a small list of releases with titles like Halo Infinite and Gears Tactics until 2023. Starting off with a surprise launch, Hi-Fi Rush is considered one of the highlights for this year as we’re weeks from entering fall.

Not only did a surprisingly good and stylish game arrive to Xbox, but also Tango Gameworks – most known for The Evil Within & GhostWire: Tokyo – worked on the game. Instantly, the game was a hit, Microsoft framed it as. Even more, despite the immediate arrival to Xbox Game Pass, the title already faced more than two million players within the first month.

Recently when speaking to Vandal, and pushed through an auto-translator, the interview with Bethesda vice president Pete Hines elaborated on the impact Hi-Fi Rush left on how Bethesda manages its projects; allowing teams to explore different avenues following the success.

“The relationship with our studios is always evolving. One of the things I hope people will draw conclusions from a game like Hi-Fi Rush is that, as a company, we’re willing to work with developers and take risks with things that you would never believe could come from that studio. When you think of Tango, you think they make horror games, and suddenly a really bright, colorful and fun musical action game comes along.

Part of the reason we released it by surprise is that we didn’t want to spend three months explaining to people why we made this game, why these people [specializing in] horror games were doing something different. It seemed much easier to announce it, let them play it and not have to ask us. It didn’t make much sense when you can just make it available to a huge audience.”

“In addition, Tango learned that this kind of thing works, that there is a large audience for this kind of games. We did very well in Game Pass with the number of players and how many copies we sold. That reinforces for us that taking risks and supporting developers who want to do something new or different is always a good thing,” Hines adds.

Noted, Xbox Game Pass remains a focal point for many releases from Xbox & Bethesda. And whilst the game was not considered for the service ahead of the Bethesda acquisition, it still applies to Hi-Fi Rush nonetheless. In a previous statement from Bethesda game director Todd Howard, he explained Xbox Game Pass does enable teams to be more ambitious thanks to the net audience right out the door. You can read the full report by heading here.

While January 2023 is in the back of our minds for this year already, many cannot say the same for Hi-Fi Rush. From the developer for The Evil Within & GhostWire: Tokyo brings a new rhythmic, cell-shaded rocking experience to Xbox. As part of a surprise shadowdrop launch, many across the industry were swiftly impressed by the new Tango Gameworks title. By March, it was said two million players had experienced the game.

Of course with a well-received game making waves online, it posed the question if PlayStation or Nintendo Switch could see a port later down the road. According to game director John Johanas, that was not the case. If anything, PC was the only planned platform prior to the Xbox deal for Zenimax Media which answers for it being exclusive to the console. But, that raises another question if the game performed well financially.

Sharing a release on Xbox Game Pass and limited to only Microsoft’s platforms, there is many conversations suggesting the game performed poorly. GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb shared insight that the title did not meet Microsoft’s expectations. But, vice president of Xbox games marketing Aaron Greenberg shares the game brought attention that the Xbox firm was hoping for in a response on Twitter.

The concern spawns from ongoing developments regarding Xbox’s first-party lineup. With titles such as Redfall already proving to be insufficient launching at 30hz on Xbox & the criticized graphical choices for Starfield, it is another complaint added to the list. Not to mention the recent acquisition block from the U.K. CMA for Activision Blizzard only further illustrates growing hesitation for consistent momentum at Xbox.

But how much does Hi-Fi Rush’s performance affects Tango Gameworks? Well, not that much. While the game did exceed expectations for Microsoft, the team is planning to restructure leadership at the team. In that, founder Shinji Mikami is to leave. You can read the full report by heading here.

Although things were looking fairly dire for team Xbox when exiting 2022, this year kicked off with plenty of momentum thanks to Tango Gameworks. From the Developers_Direct held in late January, Hi-Fi Rush received a shadowdrop for Xbox and PC. Of course, this was a major title for Xbox Game Pass as well. Most surprising is the game outperformed Luminous Productions’ Forspoken on Steam then.

Following the initial release, Hi-Fi Rush has been tossed around for potential ports for Nintendo Switch or even PlayStation. But, that is not the case – at least according to the game director it isn’t. When talking to Minnmax, on PC was the main focal point. Even though this was pre-acquisition by Microsoft, it was not until the game was properly realized that Xbox would be the only console version for Hi-Fi Rush.

Now on Wednesday, Tango Gameworks announced that a new update will roll out for Hi-Fi Rush including a new Photo Mode to the game. And with its artistic, adrenaline-pumping gameplay you would want to capture the most impressive moments in the game. “Available in the latest update to the game, players can now capture their favorite moments from Tango Gameworks’ vibrant, musically enhanced action hit with a touch of a button,” the post reads.

“While in Photo Mode, players can customize their pictures with a variety of filters, camera settings, poses and even allies joining in the shot! Once the update is complete, you can access Photo Mode directly via the in-game menu. […] On Xbox Series X|S, you can check out your photos in the ‘My Capture’ menu on your console. On PC platforms, check the folder where your Hi-Fi RUSH saved games are stored for a folder called ‘Screenshots.’”

In other Hi-Fi Rush news, the developer is to be in search for a new studio lead in the coming months. From TrueAchievements, it was revealed Tango Gameworks founder Shinji Mikami is to depart from Tango Gameworks later this year. You can read the full report by heading here.

Last month, many players across the video game industry was shaken by the sudden shadowdrop done by Tango Gameworks. In that, Hi-Fi Rush was a fun, energetic announcement at the Xbox+Bethesda Developer_Direct brining a new flavor to Xbox and its platform on PC too. The game instantly hit store shelves alongside its addition to Xbox Game Pass too.

However, this draws the question if the game has a chance to release on other platforms. The question did surface online for many if a port to Nintendo or PlayStation is possible, but the likeliness is very slim being an original release after the Microsoft acquisition of Bethesda. So far, despite its Xbox Game Pass launch, has managed to outsell Forspoken on Steam in its first week.

In a new Minnmax interview, game director John Johanas reveals that much of the groundwork for Hi-Fi Rush was on PC. So other platforms outside of Xbox was not part of the plan book for the game. You can watch the segment of the interview in the video below:

“I pitched it in 2017 cause that’s when Evil Within 2 [development] ended. I would say if we started that small prototype thing, it was like end of that time or early 2018 or something like that,” Johanas says. “We didn’t have a specific console in mind even at that point. We were just going for what looked cool and then obviously the acquisition happened and then it’s sort of like our console was defined.

“I know people were saying it’s like ‘oh there was like a PlayStation prototype prototype running somewhere’, it’s like no it was just running on a PC.” Following the statement, Johanas continued by elaborating that the game’s influence from Xbox Game Pass was more in tone to expand Tange Gameworks audience and Hi-Fi Rush was the perfect recipe.

Are you surprised by the comment from the Hi-Fi Rush game director?

Hi-Fi Rush from Tango Gameworks has arrived on Xbox Series XlS and the game contains 61 achievements for you to hunt for. We are going to show you how to get the “Wanna Hear My Playlist?” achievement worth 5 Gamerscore.

In order to have the ability to unlock this one you have to complete the games story first and then after the credits you’ll be put into the hideout. While being in the hideout you’ll notice a Jukebox appears that shows lists of songs to choose from. This allows you to change what background music is playing.

In order to actually choose a song you’ll need to have tickets which you can earn by playing the game. If you haven’t received any you should go to the big mural where you can collect your awards. Especially after completing the game you should receive quite a few tickets to use in the Jukebox.

So lastly, all you have to do is purchase a new song and “equip” it and then close out the selection screen and you should have a brand new achievement unlocked.
