The announcement comes on the Octopath Traveler series’ 8th anniversary.

Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II are available to pre-order digitally and physically as individual games. The physical version of the game will be a Game-Key Card.

Since releasing on Nintendo Switch in 2018, the HD-2D RPG series has shipped and sold more than 7 million copies worldwide and has been optimized from its original release on Switch for Nintendo Switch 2 with improved resolution and frame rate for both games.

In OCTOPATH TRAVELER, players will set forth on an epic adventure through the enchanting yet perilous continent of Orsterra, stretching across vast landscapes from lush forests, to desert outposts and snow-swept cathedrals. Featuring eight distinct characters each with their own tales to enjoy, ranging from journeys of self-discovery to quests for revenge, each traveler will start their journey in a different land so players can steer their own journey depending on whom they choose.

OCTOPATH TRAVELER II introduces players to the world of Solistia, where eight travelers with unique storylines and motivations must navigate treacherous lands, conquer enemies in strategic turn-based battles and navigate the perils and promise of a new industrial era.

OCTOPATH TRAVELER II tells an epic story, set in a new World independent from the original title. Players will be introduced to eight original characters and experience all-new features and gameplay elements. OCTOPATH TRAVELER II is the perfect entry for newcomers to the series, while also preserving the charm of the original game for existing fans by improving upon the series’ iconic HD-2D visuals, which feature a striking blend of retro 2D characters in a beautiful 3D world.

And with the game shipping that coming June to Steam, the title was now unique to both PC and Nintendo Switch. Around that time, there was also a separate mobile game scheduled to launch in Japan holding as a prequel to the 2018 release. Now, Octopath Traveler is receiving the same treatment thanks to Google.

Divided between eight different protagonists with their own stories to tell, Octopath Traveler offers an extensive experience that players can indulge in multiple times to truly get the full experience. This happens to follow the already existing relationship that has been established between Google and Square Enix as titles like Crystal Dynamics’ current Tomb Raider trilogy, Final Fantasy XV, and the approaching Marvel’s Avengers.

In separate announcements made today, Google also shared that PUBG Corp.’s PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will also be arriving today to the streaming platform. The game will also be an addition to the Stadia Pro lineup and offers specialized Stadia cosmetics with the new version releasing. The tech giant in collaboration with Electronic Arts also announced that Madden, FIFA, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be arriving to the platform later this year; read the full report here.

Seeing that the game previously surpassed 1.5 million unit sales on the Nintendo Switch since dropping back in July of last year, it isn’t that much of a surprise that the game is receiving a port to PC in the coming months. Unlike the original version being published by Square Enix Japan, the upcoming PC port will be published by Bandai Namco which is common for the publisher to fund title in Korea for Square Enix.

Alongside the landmark achievement for Octopath’s sales, Square Enix has also revealed that a mobile prequel is currently being developed for iOS and Android. Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent will be a free title for mobile users in Japan later in 2019.

Octopath Traveler as of now is only available on Nintendo Switch.

The mobile title for starters stands out from the original 2018 game by giving fans up to eight players to play when in battle.

Though discussion of the mobile title is pretty fresh right now, the game’s studio shared that the upcoming console title is currently taking longer than expected, but this new mobile game will keep fans occupied as the next installment continues to be developed.
