Recently, Ubisoft addressed its future plans for IPs Assassin’s Creed & Far Cry. Speaking to Variety, CEO Yves Guillemot disclosed that “several” Assassin’s Creed games are in the pipeline alongside a pair of Far Cry titles as well. As for other namesake IPs, the wait for an update on Splinter Cell is still lingering in the background. This has mainly been the case since the remake announcement back in late 2021.

While developer Ubisoft Toronto did further entertain the game’s progress with concept art for the new project, there has yet to be official word on the state of the title. Despite that, Ubisoft has not entirely abandoned the series in the meantime. In fact, it was as recent as October that the animated series ‘Splinter Cell Deathwatch’ aired on Netflix to give fans their Sam Fischer fix this past fall.

Now looking ahead, the wait still grows on a proper update for the Splinter Cell Remake. During that, Ubisoft has confirmed that a new wave of layoffs did hit the developer at Ubisoft Toronto. However, what the firm does do is reassure that the project is still actively being worked on despite the appointed game studio now having less employees.

“Following the recent announcement of the final phase of Ubisoft’s global cost-savings plan and the discontinuation of projects, Ubisoft Toronto will be reducing its workforce by 40 roles,” it told Kotaku in a statement. “This decision was not taken lightly and does not in any way reflect the talent, dedication, or contributions of the individuals affected. Our priority now is to support them through this transition with comprehensive severance packages and robust career placement assistance.”

Despite a few dozen people now out of a job, the project is still alive & well. This is a better fate than another prominent project under Ubisoft’s watch. It was just last month that the firm decided to pull the plug on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake as part of an internal restructuring from its new ownership.
