Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella reportedly confirmed that Universal Windows 10 Apps will become available on the Xbox One “soon” during the Madrid dotNet Conference, with thousands of developers in attendance.
With the NXOE (New Xbox One Experience) update last year, the Xbox One was updated with the capabilities to run Windows 10 apps last year. Supported Apps will include the new Avatars app, and also hints at the ability to run Cortana on the Xbox One.
Satya did not answer where UWA’s would run on the console, allowing speculation as to whether the Xbox One would receive the full Windows 10 Store, or a tighter assortment of available apps.
This update will not only allow for a more diverse experience on the console, which has been pushed from the start as an “all-in-one” entertainment system, but it will also give it a competitive difference from Sony’s PlayStation 4.
