During their E3 conference Microsoft revealed their latest addition to the Xbox One family the Xbox One S with 4K support and HDR colour. The Guys over at Polygon have confirmed that the Xbox One S supports HDR colour via the HDR10 standard. This means that some buyers of 4K TV sets may not be able to benefit from the HDR colour unless their TV supports the HDR10 format.

There are two formats currently for HDR: Dolby Vision and HDR10, Polygon state that Microsoft have stayed silent on support for Dolby’s standard. Currently Dolby Vision and HDR10 are not cross compatible and many of the current 4K TV sets available to purchase only support one of the two standards. Owners of Sony and Samsung TVs should be fine as both manufactures are pushing the HDR10 standard.

Microsoft announced the first games to support the Xbox One S HDR capabilities at E3, Both Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3 will launch this fall with HDR support.
