Yesterday, Sony Interactive Entertainment pressed that the PlayStation 5 is receiving an overhaul with new features coming to the latest console from the Japanese company. Namely, the new system would reintroduce the ability for USB storage that was present for PlayStation 4, but shockingly missing at the launch for PlayStation 5. Additionally, cross-generation share play also enters the game as well for users sharing their display across both systems.

However, there are noticeable caveats to the PlayStation 5 that is not vacant on Xbox Series X|S worth noting. Specifically, the option to utilize Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). Although not essential, the feature does clean up on performance to the naked eye which gives an overall more satisfying experience. But, there are some hidden additions as well.

From The Verge, PlayStation 5 is said to now offer both enhancements to the HDR feature alongside surprise support to monitors with 120 Hz. Already, the system supported both attributes, but now expands to those that play on a monitor rather than a television, it appears.

And while the update that arrives on Wednesday opens hope for more added features later down the road for PlayStation 5, the same is also anticipated to branch out for new opportunities as well now. While 120 Hz displays are now welcomed to experience PlayStation 5, now the chance for 1440p monitors are also hopeful for the same treatment. Sony Interactive Entertainment did press that there is a chance to add that, but no mention as to when.

However, the conversation for 120 frames per second still lingers. While Xbox Series X|S overtake support with triple the amount of games to PlayStation 5, there is a reason for that. Rocket League developer Psyonix tells that the work for the implementation of a higher framerate requires more so a complete port rather than a patch alike on Xbox.
