The Payday series has been on quite the journey with the release of its third entry. After waiting over a decade, the newest installment came with plenty of issues that left so many questioning the future of the series. “There aren’t that many missions and playing solo is a difficult endeavor thanks to poor AI. Team matchups can also be risky if you aren’t with friends. There’s some good fun to be had, but it fizzles quickly if you aren’t a dedicated player,” our review for Payday 3 reads.
However, with the outstanding amount of influence from the series with over 3 million players that already jumped into Payday 3, Starbreeze did confirm that a matchmaking rework was coming then. Additionally, other additions came to Payday 3 such as legacy heists as well. One of the most game changing was part of the Party Powder DLC which included a new ‘Armour 2.0’ that integrated different playstyle armor systems to Payday 3.
In March, Starbreeze & Fast Travel Games revealed that the series is coming with a new virtual reality effort – Payday: High Aces. The game will ship on Meta Quest & Steam later in 2026. You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below:
