2020 will mark the 10 year anniversary since Remedy Entertainment’s release of the survival thriller Alan Wake: recently with the game resurfacing on Steam following the title’s licensed music expiring, now the developer has regained the publishing rights to the 2010 title.

The news was first revealed on Global Newswire that the Finnish studio have obtained all rights to the IP as Remedy recently earned 2.5 million Euros in royalties collected from the series. The developer went on to share to plan in using the money towards new projects that have yet to be announced.

Atop of August-aimed Control that Remedy is releasing later this Summer, the developer is also working on the recently announced Crossfire X alongside Smilegate based in Korea as the Finnish studio focuses on the story campaign for the action shooter. Amidst the announcement for the game, it was detailed that the title will arrive first on Xbox One with implications that other platforms will receive the title sometime afterwards.

Video game outlet VG24/7 in conjunction with the announcement shares that Remedy Entertainment could once again pursue the long-awaited sequel, Alan Wake 2. In an interview last year, Remedy told the website that a follow-up was in the making, but fell flat at the time. However, with regaining the rights to the IP, that could be what was holding the developer back from putting the game’s development on all throttles.

Earlier this year at PAX East, I got some hands on time with Control and gave my impressions on the current build of the game. You can read the piece here.

Alan Wake is out for Xbox 360 and PC.
