Since the surfacing rumors that Blizzard’s Overwatch will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, players have already fueled themselves with guesses and speculation on what other possibilities could emerge from this. At the time prior to the game officially being announced during the most recent Nintendo Direct last month, fans did have hope for a potential Overwatch character drop for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Many users online already associating the mascot for Overwatch’s team-based first-person shooter to be Tracer, so the culprit was picked out by default. However, other speculation combated this assumption with the rumor of SNK’s Terry Bogard to be the next reveal, which eventually happened to be the case.

However, in a recent interview with the game’s Lead Director Jeff Kaplan, he shares to have open arms towards Nintendo of adopting Tracer for the multi-property brawler. Speaking with IGN on the matter, he endorses the idea of actually any character from the game’s roster to join the battle.

“To the Smash Brothers team, whatever character you want, we love them all. They’re all our babies, you can have any single one of them. We have 31 to choose from,” Kaplan announces in the interview. “Tracer’s our girl, Tracer’s our mascot. She’d be my first choice.”

With a bomb drop like that, this will surely rile up any on-edge fans who are antsy to already know who will be the next character for the current Fight Pass. Leaving only one slot left for the first character expansion, maybe this is reserved for Blizzard’s current IP. We already know that Nintendo decided on the characters for this Fighter Pass, so maybe it will be an Overwatch character, if not, then maybe in the second batch.

This is not the first time we have seen corporate icons enthusiastic to greeting Nintendo with their property to use for Smash Ultimate. Last year Phil Spencer shared to be open with allowing the use of Banjo Kazooie for the Nintendo fighter: which was later ended up being added to the game, so that gives more hope, but ultimately still does not confirm anything.

Which Overwatch character would you want to be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?
