At the beginning of April, Square Enix shipped the first of three segments for the full reimagining of 1997’s Final Fantasy VII. The game swiftly picked up traction on the PlayStation side of this industry as the game launches uniquely to the platform for a full year until the other undisclosed systems receive its own version of the game. It wasn’t reported that until the end of last month that Square Enix shared the market response to the title’s arrival.

On Twitter, the Japanese publisher disclosed that Final Fantasy VII Remake sold 3.5 million units within its first three days. Translating to roughly one million copies a day, the game showed to be an instant success for Square Enix. Atop of the ongoing pandemic that is still in effect, it is suspected that also played into the game’s sales as well.

Now during today’s NPD Group report for April 2020, it is revealed that Final Fantasy VII Remake is the top grossing release for the entirety of the series. NPD tells that the game within its first full month of releasing has already reached the top 3 in sales for the franchise.

NPG Group goes on to share that the launch for Final Fantasy VII Remake is also a byproduct of new records for the series as it approaches new highs in sold units and gross revenue. The group caps the report by announcing that the title is currently the top selling game on the platform as of recording for 2020. Elsewhere, NPD Group lists Final Fantasy VII Remake to overtake other anticipated titles on the platform like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare ranked at second and NBA 2K20 ranked at third.

As stated previously, the game is only available until April of 2021 on PlayStation 4. With that being said, the game could reach new highs in market sales before the end of the fiscal year if other versions are revealed for pre-order on competing platforms later on. Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda spares a potential tease towards the new consoles arriving later on this year which could also help swell sales for the game.

Elsewhere in a previous report, a PC version for Final Fantasy VII Remake has also been retrieved by dataminers for the game earlier on. That respected version can also dictate that more units to be sold for the project also. You can read the full report by heading here.
