Insomniac Games Clarifies Coming Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Is A “Standalone Game”

During the recent PlayStation 5 showcase that Sony held to feature some of the biggest addition’s to the platform’s lineup for the next-generation, one of the biggest announcements comes from Insomniac Games. Unveiling Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the new game is shared to feature the titular hero who sports his own Spidey costume with his own tasks to face. However, that might not be entirely true now.

At the time of the announcement, many grasped that the new title would be coming as a full-fledge game. But now, it looks to be a larger miscommunication, Insomnia Games shares. In a Twitter post following the initial reveal this past Thursday, the developer clarifies that the recent announcement is a “standalone game” instead of a new entry.

What in particular this means is that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will not be a completely new experience developed solely for the PlayStation 5. While the game is unique in its own way, it is very similar to the name-shared title that shipped earlier on in 2018. Even after the clarification was made, fans following the game interpreted the project to be an add-on of sorts which segues to a PlayStation 5 version of the Insomniac-developed title, but that is not true either.

To properly frame what Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is, it holds a similar structure to Uncharted 4: The Lost Legacy or Infamous First Light. Both standalone projects offer a new take on the world the game is set in while still being a new journey to experience. Looking at similar entities, Miles Morales could also face some limitations like a smaller playground of New York City to swing in or missing abilities in favor of a new hero, but this being a net-gen project could mean otherwise entirely.
