As part of the $69 billion acquisition for Activision Blizzard King, Microsoft is in possession of the rich library of franchises included in the purchase. Phil Spencer ahead of the deal passing has shared excitement to poke his fingers in the vaults of IPs. And, there was hope to see a return for some forgotten series. One is Guitar Hero: former CEO Bobby Kotich told the IP could find new light with the new ownership.

Additionally, there have been some downsides as well. Previously, concept artist Nicholas Kole via a post on X told that Crash Bandicoot was preparing a fifth installment, but it was canceled internally. This came after Toys for Bob became an independent developer. In better light, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 + 4 is arriving later this summer.

But in a weird approach, Activision has been witnessed advertising non-existing games with AI-generated artwork in an attempt to spoke engagement. It is seen with the post on Instagram for ‘Guitar Hero Mobile’.

“Guitar Hero Mobile is a fast-paced, competitive mobile rhythm game where players face off in real-time musical battles, hitting notes in sync with the music to climb the global leaderboards and become the ultimate rockstar,” the description reads. Via @MargwaNetwork on X, another title ‘Call of Duty: Zombie Defender’ was listed online also.

“Call of Duty: Zombie Defender is a top-down, tactical mobile defense game where players build defenses and fight off waves of zombies in an iconic, post-apocalyptic world,” the synopsis says. And, Crashy News also uncovered ‘Crash Bandicoot Brawl’ as well. “Crash Bandicoot Brawl is a fast-paced, round survival game where 30+ contestants compete against one another in wacky platforming, puzzle-solving, and obstacle course challenges.”

The postings do poke readers to also respond with interest correlating to the connecting IP for potential interest to lay a foundation in making these games a reality. AI is not hidden tool at Activision as it was revealed on Steam recently that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 even uses it for some of its work as well. You can read the full report by heading here.

Are you surprised by Activision’s approach with AI this week?
