The outreach of virtual reality support on PlayStation VR 2 has been fairly tame. Although the Sony Interactive Entertainment has just recently reduced the price of the peripheral to be under the PlayStation 5 finally, it appears there is more work to be done. Previously, executives at Sony has expressed the platform has been an obstacle to overcome for PlayStation.
Additionally, there has also been continued chatter on the future plans for PlayStation VR 2. Although titles continue to release, internal first-party efforts have been reduced drastically. In that, Android Central reported about two titles were what remains at PlayStation Studios for its virtual reality push as of 2024. Even the newly announced Marvel’s Deadpool VR will not be coming to PlayStation VR 2.
On Wednesday, Beat Games have announced that it will be ceasing support for PlayStation VR across both iterations of the headset as of June 2025. Multiplayer is also confirmed to be shuttered for Beat Saber on both PlayStation VR & PlayStation VR 2 next year as well, the developer confirms.
“As we look to the future and plan the next big leap for Beat Saber, we have made the decision to no longer release updates for PS4 and PS5 starting in June 2025. Our passion for VR remains unwavering. We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and what we can bring to Beat Saber fans who have been on this journey with us over the past 7 years,” the FAQ reads.
“This update will not impact your ability to keep playing Beat Saber, and you will still have access to content that you previously purchased on the PlayStation platform. Beat Saber will still be available for purchase on PS4 and PS5 devices, and you can still play or purchase songs or music packs that were released prior to June 18, 2025. However, no new content will be released on these platforms after that date.
“Additionally, starting on January 21st, 2026, multiplayer will no longer be available in Beat Saber on PS4 and PS5. Cross-buy, however, will remain active between the PS4 and PS5 base game.” Not too long ago, Mojang Studios announced its closure for Minecraft VR support on PlayStation VR.
