While little was presented during its initial reveal back at the June 2020 PlayStation 5 Showcase, new information slowly trickled out regarding Forspoken. Then-codenamed Project Athia, the game presented to be a definitive project that follows the definition of generation-pushing content. In a later PlayStation 5 advertisement, it was revealed that the title will be a PlayStation console exclusive for two years at the earliest.
However, the wait time is expected to lead well until 2024. That is due to the projected release window that aims the game for January next year. But, Sony interactive Entertainment in one blanket sweep retracted the listing for Project Athia and a selection of other marketed projects as well. It was not until this March that Square Enix paved a 2022 launch window for the game alongside revealing the true ‘Forspoken’ titling for the game.
But at Thursday’s PlayStation 5 Showcase was where developer Luminous Productions revealed a new gameplay trailer for Forspoken alongside a spring 2022 timeframe for its arrival. You can watch the new trailer in the video below:
“Playing as Frey, you’ll need to harness newly discovered magical abilities to battle the terrifying monsters that inhabit the land. To have a chance of returning home, she’ll also have to contend with the Tantas — destructive and twisted all-powerful matriarchs who have dominion over Athia,” Luminous Productions Creative Producer Raio Mitsuno explains.
Additionally, Mitsuno shares that reputable individuals such as Amy Hennig (Uncharted),Gary Whitta (Star Wars: Rogue One), Allison Rymer (Lost), and Todd Stashwick (Courage the Cowardly Dog) is involved in the writing for the story. Stashwick was notably involved with the now-cancelled Star Wars project when helmed by Visceral Games.
