Continuing onward the roller coaster that is the wait time for Horizon Forbidden West, passengers are finally finding some ease to the ride. Just this past week, Guerrilla Games & Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed that the highly-anticipated sequel is officially arriving next year in February 2022. The announcement comes weeks after reports of the title to be shipping beyond its presumed 2021 release window.
However, while the game was feature initially to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive at the titular Showcase back in June 2020, Sony Interactive Entertainment did not hesitate to later disclose the game will be shipping on PlayStation 4 as well. Howbeit, the team did clarify that the last-generation version will receive its own dedicated support which won’t withhold the experience.
On Thursday, Guerrilla Games featured the new special editions for Horizon Forbidden West which includes collectibles and unique in-game content. But, it has come to realization that the game if purchased for PlayStation 4 does not come with a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version oddly enough.
For players looking to have access to both the PS4 & PS5 versions of Horizon Forbidden West, please purchase the Digital Deluxe, Collector’s, or Regalla Editions. Dual entitlement does not apply to the standard and Special Editions.
What is more concerning is that those deciding to pre-order either the Standard Edition will not be able to upgrade to a higher tier, PlayStation Support clarifies. “There are no plans for an update offer from standard to digital deluxe edition at this time.” Additionally, both the Collector’s Edition or Regalla Edition is said to only include a digital code for the full game; likely due to the digital-only PlayStation 5 model.
While especially surprising finding this from a first-party release from the PlayStation company, this is not the first instance of this in practice. Previously, Control faced a similar situation when the Ultimate Edition was revealed which withheld the title from shipping with a free upgrade to the new Xbox & PlayStation.
