As many are aware, the current state of Halo Infinite is a complete invert of how the industry welcomed the game at its initial release. With many praise and recognition the title delivered at the time for its reshaping to define a modern Halo title, the promise of a free-to-play live service leaves players emptying lobbies and desperate for more content. So far, the firm has confirmed a trio of maps are slated for Season 2 – Lone Wolves alongside a couple new game modes as well.
Additionally, the latest itinerary for Halo Infinite also mentioned a ‘Career Progression System’ is also in development, but it will be sometime until the game fully embraces the feature. But, what about Certain Affinity’s involvement? Well, recently the firm told it is “entrusted in further evolving Halo Infinite” in some capacity as it hires more staff for the unannounced initiative.
For one, it is likely to be the previously reported ‘Project Tatanka’. From Windows Central, the story discloses a new ambition to explore PvPvE for the new ambition. Coming from previous Halo games, it is likely the team is taking pointers from Halo 5: Guardians whilst establishing some battle royale elements – at least that what is being speculated for the unnamed mode.
Well, this past week on the Xbox Two Podcast, Windows Central’s Jez Cordon expressed more information on Project Tatanka cementing the game mode to in fact be battle royale. You can watch the segment of the podcast in the video below:
“Basically, I have information suggesting it ]Project Tatanka] is battle royale – that it’s some form of battle royale. I don’t know what it’s going to be specifically like a clone of PUBG and stuff like that, but this is a huge mode. This mode has been in development for over two years, y’know, with Certain Infinity.
“It’s a big deal: it’s a huge investment and they’ve been working on it for a really long time. This isn’t just like a few game modes here and there, this is a big Warzone […] scale undertaking. It’s basically like a separate game. The goal of this mode is to bring new players to the Halo franchise. […] This is gunning for the Fortnite audience, the Warzone audience; this is gonna go a bit broader.”
Jex when talking on the matter expelled that the plans for this new mode has been in active development for more than two years already and is planned to release sometime in Season 3. Thankfully, this aligns with the release of Forge Mode by that time as well giving waiting players more reason to return to the game. As to when we will learn the first official piece of information from 343 Industries itself is not certain though.
At no surprise, this is not where it ends. Over on @leaks_infinite on Twitter, the Halo Infinite datamining page revealed newly found settings for what is understood to be Project Tatanka. The options uncovered includes “Containment Zone Quadrant”, “Alternate Loot Item Table”, and “Bleedout Enabled”.
Believe it or not, but it was close to two years ago that battle royale leaked from an official Xbox listing. In Japan, the Xbox Store description mentioned the game mode following the initial July 2020 showcase for Halo Infinite prior to its 2021 delay. You can read the full report by heading here.
Are you surprised Halo Infinite is to receive its own flavored battle royale mode?
