New Update Rolls Onto Skate Story Adding Photo Mode & New Game+

Last year, waiting fans were excited to learn that there are major things in motion for Sam Eng’s Skate Story. The title in 2025 was confirmed to release on Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, the game would also ship in December for PlayStation 5 as well. Even more is that the title would be featured as a launch addition to PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for both Extra & Premium members.

Rectify Gaming has previously covered Skate Story during its development. Back in 2020, we wrote from our first impression that Skate Story stood out in the drought for skating sims then. “In contrast to currently available and upcoming alternatives that follow the already-established route, Skate Story does something different and pursues to be an experience of its own with no set objectives or any laid out text telling you what to do.”

As for the full release now, there is a new update that rolled out for the game over the weekend that further deepens the experience for players. Now live on PlayStation 5 & Nintendo Switch 2, Skate Story now faces a major update which includes both photo mode as well as New Game+. Of course, there is also a slew of quality of life improvements that were also pocketed in the patchwork too.

“The Sinkhole has been adjusted to help prevent softlocks. Tested on several save files; Specific Softlock Fixes;Sticker Max Inventory increased; Sound Mix fixed (It was being overwritten to +6db); Tiny Hub shortcuts fixed; Chapter 3 Skybox Mipmaps Fixed; Roman Numeral 19 Fixed; Performance Optimizations; Hub Music updated to final masters; Other small geometry updates to various levels; Fixed some minor cutscenes not being skippable; A stone indicating the total number of tricks performed has been added to the Skater’s Dream.”

The photo mode has been described as a “simple” addition for players to “Take snapshots to remember your eternal torment.” Regarding New Game+, the new mode is confirmed to carry over progress including your decks & stickers among other in-game collectibles. Also, achievement progress is to also be preserved when starting in New Game+, the post verifies.
