Dating back to April, developer Supermassive Games announced that the second chapter for the Dark Pictures anthology dubbed Little Hope is underway for a soon release later on in summer 2020. The announcement trailer unveiled the new title to be based in a fictional Salem as a group of students visit the colonial settlement with a dark and looming past.
The development team made the announcement on Twitter disclosing that the decision was effectively made due to the hindering results of working from home thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have been working successfully at home for some time, with the entire team committed to delivering the best possible games. With that in mind it rests with me that to make the unfortunate announcement that Little Hope will be delayed past the Summer release already announced, now targeting Fall 2020,” the new letterhead reads.
Supermassive Games CEO Pete Samuels shares that despite the upsetting news is for fans of the game alongside the hard work the team has already endured with the established work-from-home initiative, the studio’s main objective is to ensure the safety of everyone involved with the new project. “We will continue to follow government and industry body advice and will only embark on any element of development when such advice tells us that it is safe to do so.”
Now with the coming second installment being pushed to fall later in the year, it is suspected that following entries will also face similar delays in development as well. In a previous interview, Supermassive Games shared that there are more than a handful of titles already aimed to be shipped in the coming years. The team essentially will continue to work on The Dark pictures until it is unable to proceed, Samuels explained.
