Xbox Game Studios Is The New Name For Microsoft Studios

Microsoft has been very active with their recent shopping spree of third-party acquisitions during the second half of 2018. And now to fully take on the recent decisions with a rebrand of their game development organization from Microsoft Studios to Xbox Game Studios.

In total, Microsoft have acquired six different studios in the last year alone to tackle the lack of titles their current platform is facing:

• Compulsion Games
  
• InXile Entertainment
  
• Ninja Theory
  
• Playground Games
  
• Undead Labs
  
• Obsidian Entertainment

Not to mention the newly formed Santa Monica-based studio The Initiative which houses industry veterans like God of War Level Designer Chris O’neill and Sunset Overdrive Director Drew Murray to work on an upcoming and unnamed project. With more landmark developers like Halo’s 343 Industries, Forza’s Turn 10, Sea of Thieves’ Rare Ltd. and Gears of War’s The Coalition, this should turn around how players view the current status of Xbox’s line of first-party titles within the upcoming years.

Despite the amount of games homed on Xbox One at the moment, their Netflix-esc Xbox Game Pass service has been drawing big numbers for Microsoft seeing the result from 2018. As Xbox-based software along with services provided through their platform on Xbox boosted up revenue for Microsoft by 8%. But followed with a 19% decline in hardware sales. With Game Pass planned to come to PC in the near future, these numbers are expected to keep growing as it open to another platform.

It was also revealed recently that Microsoft plans to bring their Xbox Live service across to other platforms like PC, mobile, and even Nintendo Switch in the future as well.

For what’s in store for Xbox these coming months, the long awaited Crackdown 3 is approaching its February 15^th release date.
