This year, users witnessed the rebranding for one of the most recognized firms in the industry’s history. In that, Swedish developer Mojang, responsible for Minecraft, relabeled itself as Mojang Studios to recognize the capacity of hands involved under the name: fitting for the scale of the firm now in contrast to its conception back in 2009. Now another notorious team is receiving a new name.

This time being Facebook-owned Oculus, its parent company announced today that the subsidiary will be inheriting its name. Unveiling Facebook Reality Labs, the firm told that the new title for Oculus was provided to the internal research division associated as Oculus Research. But now, the name will be blanketed across the entire effort for Oculus.

Facebook explains the rebranding stands as part of a new initiative to further its innovation campaign for social media technology alongside its branded virtual reality headsets. Facebook also renamed the initially titled Oculus Connect with Facebook Connect in anticipation for the coming September presentation.

Rather than distracting us and taking us away from the people around us, tomorrow’s AR and VR devices will melt away, letting us connect and be truly present with the people and moments that matter most.

While there are tangible reasoning as for why Facebook would decide to reapproach Oculus’ marketing to better associate it with its brand, many users online seem to disagree on the matters. Players express the new relabeling to Facebook Reality Labs to be another unnecessary initiative to further integrate Oculus’ research and innovations into its already global dominating platform.

This grudge on the decision also runs off from the recent move Facebook made earlier this month. Then, the firm announced that players will be required to log into their purchased headsets using a Facebook account.
