While Atlus’ Persona subseries which derived from the developer’s Shin Migami Tensei franchise continues to grow in its own popularity, the Japanese developer is preparing the series’ 25th anniversary. Previously, series producer Kazuhisa Wada elaborated on the importance for what is to come from the celebration that will be held this year, he said in a statement last year.
Atop of that, publisher Sega is also expecting to usher Atlus to deliver on global releases fairly soon as well. In that, Sega Vice President Fumi Uchiumi said this on the matter: “Simultaneous worldwide release on multiple platforms will be a tailwind for titles. Of course we’ll make adjustments for each title, but we’d like to be aware of global expansion for Atlus titles as well.” The decision was warranted from the recent success Yakuza developer RGG Studio showed with its ambition for a global release.
On Monday, the official Persona Series 25th Anniversary website went live. With that, Atlus highlights the series with a new key art that compiles the first five games with its respected protagonists. Additionally, the firm also teases seven unnamed projects which are likely to be shared at a later date.
“As of 2021, the Persona series has sold over 15 million copies worldwide. To all of our fans that have supported us for so long, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” the website message reads. “And this coming September, the Persona series will finally celebrate its 25th anniversary. To show our gratitude, we are preparing a number of celebrations over the one year period from September 2021 to fall 2022.”
So while many of these announcements will not be shared at once, Atlus prepares to reveal them all in an annually-structured manner. Which does go on to explain the on hinted image that reads ‘2022/Autumn”. Currently, there is no understanding as to what the reveals will directly be in terms of platforms, genres, or context for remakes/new installments.
Previously, Atlus surveyed its player base to question which platforms that its fans are excited to see the series head next. While many are hoping that Persona receives a larger impression on Nintendo Switch, Atlus asks if Xbox is a preferable platform in the question, interestingly enough.
