Under the longing wait for a new Dead Space game, original creator Glen Schofield announced The Callisto Protocol back at The Game Awards nearly two years ago. Originally, it was a new storyline that would tie into the greater PUBG Battlegrounds franchise which is also owned by publisher Krafton, but was scrapped as it stands in its own universe now.

As for what this new project will deliver is a fresh and extremely graphic story of a prisoner on Callisto – the second-largest moon of Jupiter as the correction facility begins to get overrun by a lethal disease that is transforming people into unrecognizable creatures. And while Dead Space Remake is on the way to ship in January, it is a new experience to further fuel that hunger for an outer space, horror survival game.

When speaking to Inverse in an interview, Schofield disclosed his hope to work on another title. As the game already went gold and its release is scheduled to ship this Friday, there is still no confirmed standing if another game has been given the green flag. “I want to make a sequel. This is a complete game, but there’s a lot of ideas, cool ideas, we want to do next. I always want to keep making the next big thing. Even after I finish a game, I’m already thinking what’s next.”

Moreover on what has happened with Dead Space and his journey to creating this new IP, Schofield shares sportsmanship on the close releases of two similar games this winter. “I wish them the absolute best, but I don’t really know anything about it. I don’t really want to know anything about it. They have extremely talented people over there, but… Honestly, if it were me, I wouldn’t remake it. I am glad for them, but I wouldn’t. I want to move on and make something new. Dead Space is in my past.”

Remakes continues to be an ongoing trend for many beloved titles in recent years. Publishers such as Ubisoft for Splinter Cell & Rockstar Games regarding Max Payne are both following this path to revitalize dormant properties alongside translating these formulas to modern standards. Are you in favor or not to Schofield’s statement?

The Callisto Protocol ships December 2, 2022 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
