Apex Legends Welcomes ‘Hardcore Royale’ Mode In Celestial Sunrise Collection Event

For the Apex Legends roster of content, Season 15 – Eclipse has felt lack luster to many. Yes, new Legend Catalyst reinvents the game being the first legend to actually counter scan abilities/recon Legends, however, that is one of the few additions to the game. Atop of that, new map ‘Broken Moon’ also brings a new setting to the rotating list of maps. But, it is only enough to keep players occupied as the hunger for limited-time modes still linger.

This past holiday, the Winter Express game mode returned to World’s Edge bringing a the annual game type back once more in the Wintertide Event. Additionally, another event – Spellbound Collection Event – has arrived and is still underway. Fan-favorite Control game mode has returned with the introduction of the Seer, Showstoppers.

In a new announcement on Thursday, a new event dubbed ‘Celestial Sunrise Collection Event’ was revealed to celebrate the coming Lunar New Year – Year of the Rabbit. With it comes a new ‘Hardcore Royale’ game mode and rewards the new reactive Peacekeeper skin ‘Jadeite Retribution’. The event will be live from January 24 to February 7.

“Hardcore Royale is much like Trios, but with some fun changes that will make information sharing amongst your squad critical. Make sure to count your shots, and always keep the Ring in mind. Let’s break down what to expect when you drop,” the description for the new game mode reads. “Armor is restricted to white armor only, and can’t be upgraded through dealing damage, crafting,  or looting.

“While this makes it easier to take down your enemies, keep in mind you’ll be just as vulnerable. Helmets have also been removed making headshots more lethal/rewarding. Pick your fights carefully, Legend. Or it could all be over in the blink of an eye. Additional gameplay changes for Hardcore Royale are listed below.

The blog post also references the next limited-time mode coming later in February for Valentine’s Day. “Date Night includes a new healing mechanic exclusive to the takeover. Using any healing item will show an area around your Legend. If your Duos partner is in the area when you finish the heal, they’ll also receive the effects of the item! Heal your partner to spread the love, and don’t forget to say thank you!”
