Dan Houser, Rockstar Games Co-Founder Establishes Transmedia Firm Absurd Ventures

In regards to Rockstar Games, the Grand Theft Auto developer is slowly chipping away at the next installment nearly a decade after the launch of Grand Theft Auto V. Previously, it was reported the new game will return to Vice City with a duo cast – one male & one female. In a following chain of events, leaked internal footage for the new game appeared online giving players an understanding of the new title underway.

Additionally, this will mark the first entry without the blood-tied duo of Dan Houser & Sam Houser. Back in February 2020, Dan Houser announced his departure from Rockstar Games after work at the team since its founding for over two decades. A later development revealed that Houser founded ‘Absurd Ventures’ on a U.K. filings website.

This week, Houser officially established Absurd Ventures as the new firm tackles not only video games, but a whole slew of transmedia content including television, film, books, and podcasts. You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below:

“Absurd Ventures is building narrative worlds, creating characters, and writing stories for a diverse variety of genres, without regard to medium, to be produced for live-action and animation; video games and other interactive content; books, graphic novels, and scripted podcasts,” the press release reads.

“We are building Absurd Ventures to create new universes and to tell great stories, wherever and however we can,” Houser gives as a statement in the press release. Currently, it is unsure what Houser’s new venture will be conjuring first, but it is evident that Absurd Ventures plans to push the envelope of the macabre beyond what is expected.
