This year has been marked by widespread layoffs across the video game industry, and Microsoft has been heavily affected. Early in the year, there was a 1,900 mass layoff that impacted not only Xbox Game Studios but Activision & Blizzard as well. In May, Microsoft closed Tango Gameworks, Roundhouse Studios, Alpha Dog Games, and Arkane Austin with the majority of employees being impacted.

Yesterday, it appears that Microsoft has started a new round of layoffs as one Xbox employee shared on X (Twitter) that their role has been eliminated. This news was found out while she was on vacation. The Verge’s Tom Warren indicates that more Xbox layoffs will be happening this week.

Microsoft has not stated officially how much more layoffs are happening nor have other employees publicly said anything yet. The exact number of layoffs that are coming has not been reported.

This will add to a long list of layoffs the industry has seen over the last two years and sadly it seems there’s no end in sight.
