The number of video game development teams at this year’s PAX East continues to dwindle as the concerns surrounding the COVIN-19 pathogen continues to increase steadily around the globe. To prevent the continued spread of the disease, companies like Capcom and Sony Interactive Entertainment have pulled from the annual event in Boston, Massachusetts.
Now the next team to announce their withdrawal from PAX East comes from PUBG Corp. Through an email sent out today, the company has announced that its attendance will be pulled from this weekend’s event alongside the Game Developer’s Convention (GDC) next month in San Francisco, California.
PUBG Corporation has decided to cancel it’s presence at PAX as well as GDC 2020 due to the continued spread of the coronavirus.
The email also told that the originally planned Happy Hour at the Rosa Mexicano in the New England city has also been cancelled due to the growing concerns. However, the team does confirm that the party will be rescheduled to a later time when travelling can be taken more lightly whenever the disease is tamed.
Ahead of not only PAX, but also GDC, Sony Interactive Entertainment alongside Facebook have already declared to be absent from the show in March. Among Facebook’s announced absence, this also confirms that Oculus as well will be dodging the event.
As more and more companies continue to pull out of anticipated events in the gaming landscape, it is suspected that perhaps this will affect further down the line into the biggest show of the year, E3. With already Sony being gone by default atop of this swelling concern, 2020 might be a different year for gaming as a whole.
