Back at the turn of the generation of platforms, Capcom alongside UK developer Ninja Theory released DmC: Devil May Cry in 2013 that rebooted the iconic franchise with a twist on the origin of protagonist Dante and his antagonizing brother Virgil. Despite how promising of a developer Ninja Theory was to make their own iteration of the 2001 franchise, many fans can argue that the series was not in need of complete rework.
But regardless of the lesser than desirable fan reception for DmC, it seems that Capcom is interested in seeing a sequel if the project ever comes to be. According to an interview with US Gamer, series Producer Matt Walker shares that if there was to be a follow-up title, Ninja Theory would have to be the one to make it.
“On the dev side we certainly wanted to and thought we would work with Ninja Theory again to create a sequel to DmC, but that unfortunately didn’t get off the ground,” Walker told the gaming outlet. “We’d still love to see a sequel, but we think it absolutely has to be made by Ninja Theory.”
Walker going to the extent to share that developer Ninja Theory and their specific use of designing the title is exclusively unique to the title and wouldn’t be able to be mimicked from any other studio. “It wouldn’t be DmC without Ninja Theory.”
Though DMC 2 did not exceed expectations as the recently released Devil May Cry V did according to Capcom this week, it seems that the publisher would have no problem to have a sequel in the attempted reboot regardless off fan feedback due to Ninja Theory’s distinctive features that are present in the title.
The most interesting part would be where the title would fall if it ever happened to pass for development. Seeing that Ninja Theory being acquired by Microsoft nearly a year ago, the sequel could possibly be exclusive to Microsoft’s platform if the idea ever becomes reality.
