Chibi-Robo! Developers Announce New Project koROBO, Kickstarter Live Today

One of the most upsetting reveals from 2020 still stings years later. In August then, it was reported that developer Skip would be shuttering its doors. Although the developer was most notable for its effort on the beloved Nintendo franchise Chibi-Robo for countless years, the firm has hardly a footprint on the Nintendo Switch hardware when compared to previous systems.

However, while the original developer closed its doors, leadership from Skip has gone on to form a new game studio – Tiny Wonder Studio. And with the talent garnered from its experience working on the Chibi-Robo series and collaborating directly with Nintendo, the team recently announced its first project. koROBO is a successor to the Chibi-Robo series and brings a new experience for what felt to be vacant in the sector for some time.

On Monday, Tiny Wonder Studio officially launched the Kickstarter for koROBO with an asking goal of $127,000. As of writing, the page has already earned over 500 backers with $43,466 pledged thus far. You wan watch the official trailer in the video below:

“Somewhere in the borough of Brocklyn, nestled within the urban jungle of New Yock City, Tom and his mother are celebrating his 10th birthday. When a wrapped present arrives, Tom rips through it, excited to see what’s inside. What he finds is…not, the coolest and latest in tiny household robo tech, but some knockoff model—koROBO…? That’s bogus!!”

The description for koROBO from the Kickstarter continues, “But before long, koROBO is cleaning the home, helping Tom with his homework, and even playing games and reading comics with him like a brother. What will koROBO’s introduction have in store for Tom and his family? […] Traverse around the family home, clean up mess, and solve problems wherever you find them—a big ask for such a tiny hero!

“Be careful, though! koROBO’s battery is limited, and performing tasks will drain it even faster. While more popular robots require you to plug into adventure, koROBO needs to bathe in some rays in order to charge the solar battery strapped to his back. Keep an eye out for patches of sunlight to make sure you keep running at peak capacity!

“While exploring Tom’s apartment building, you won’t just be helping out him and his family—there’s a whole host of kooky denizens living out their lives that koROBO will encounter. Talk to these characters and solve their problems to unlock some of koROBO’s most powerful upgrades!”
