As we expected from the trailer that dropped in February revealing that the upcoming entry for Cooking Mama, Cookstar would be arriving later in March. And as the game did arrive to the Nintendo eShop as promised, players swiftly discovered that the game cannot be found anywhere as of this past week.
Reasons as for why were not answered which left this entire scenario to be even more confusing as the developer nor the game’s publisher did not disclose what swayed the decision to pull the game. However, according to users online, the reasoning for the game being removed from the Nintendo eShop is due to a more malicious intent.
In a tweet made by @MorshuMmm on Twitter, the user posted an image which disclosed that the company responsible for the recently released title has been utilizing player systems to mine crypto currency unknowingly.
To make matters worse, the owner of the Cooking Mama property, Planet Entertainment, was unaware of the latest title even releasing online as reported by IGN. Since last year, the company’s Twitter account has been nothing but radio silence: no mentions of Cookstar are found on the firm’s website and any reference from Planet has been removed shortly after by the company.
According to Cybershroom who the Twitter poster uploaded today, the press release for the game describes the mechanism to allow systems to mine crypto currency to be “blockchain-based DRM.” This explaining why users who want the game can only do online despite there being little online functionality for the game. Additionally, it was also disclosed that the publisher responsible for the game is also based in a residence in Connecticut.
Luckily the issue at hand was caught on before the game settled into the market and more fans managed to get their hands on a copy of the game. If not, this incident would have swelled tremendously as the game was also listed to hit PlayStation 4 as well at a later, undisclosed date.
Did you manage to get a copy of Cooking Mama: Cookstar?
